Reality Surrounding Us

The Ottawa International Airport was awarded for having the best customer service in the world ,for it's size category. We as Canadians should be proud that our Capital city was honoured. WOO Canada!

This is a picture of a hospital room in Iran. The Patient was just brought from the ambulance into the hospital room where the doctor pronounced him dead. Comparing this picture of a hospital room in Iran to the ones we have in Ontario makes me extremely grateful for the health care system we have.

This is a picture of a building in Haiti exactly one year after the devastational earthquake. Imagine what the entire country looks like. This is a Major stadium downtown.

Lady Gaga arrived and came down the red carpet in this egg like structure.

This is a birds eye picture of Afghanistan. Is this what you expected it to look like?

  1. these pictures really bring to light the differences that each country has. They also make people aware of how fortunate we are to live in Canada, especially that hospital picture. thanks for the post :)

  2. It makes me a little embarrassed that celebrities in North American culture spend so much money on an entrance for the red carpet. This money could be going toward something more worthwhile to help the people of these third world nations.

  3. Its actually funny Meg, because this morning I was listening to the news on my way to school. It was talking about how the US in 14 trillion dollars in debt. It also spoke about how there is a city in the US called “Oakland or Akland" (not sure how it is spelt) where the government cannot even afford to pay police. The city has the most crime of any other city its size. The government has set up a website where the citizens can report the crimes because police cannot make it to simple crimes like traffic jams, shop lifting etc. They also said that in most cities it takes on average 5 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, however in this city it takes 15 minutes. This is craziness. Instead of Lady gag paying millions of dollars for her entrance, she should donate her money towards towns like this one.

  4. These pctures definitly make you think. It kinda just shows us how we need to rexamine our priorities as a socieity. There is definitly a huge contrast between what people in our country view as exciting or out of the ordinary(Lady Gaga's in an egg!) and what people in poorer countries view the same way (I get to eat today!).

  5. Yes, nice contrast in the pictures. You could really do an interesting blog by finding something like grocery stores around the world and showing how much of a difference there is. We really are very fortunate and I try not to let a day go by where I don't remind myself how lucky I really am. Nice blogging so far, Taylor.

  6. Great post. I like what you're saying about Gaga and how she is spending so much on an entrance when a city in the US (funny cause the US is always thought of being one of the richest countries) can't even pay for their own police. Canada is in one of the best economic situations right now. It's great being Canadian.

  7. This is eye opening for sure, it makes me think about how much we take advantage of what we have and how superficial most of us here are compared to the reality of life in other parts of the world.

  8. Wow, I’ve seen pictures like these before, but never in contrast with one another like this. This layout is very effective. It is hard to believe that parts of the United States can be in such a state of preposterous luxury, yet others can be struggling to enforce laws and aid people in need of serious health care. This is a single country...they are supposed to be united.
